Born in Akron, Ohio, November 17, 1966. Scorpio sun, Pisces
rising, Aquarius moon. Grew up in suburbs, Cuyahoga Falls,
Tallmadge, played video games (i.e. Atari), pinball, Advanced Dungeons
and Dragons, and football. Got scholarship to go to the
University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, 1985, went to London in
87-88 for junior year and it was there that I began to write seriously,
as a poet and novelist, and became inspired to make art, although I did
not actually start painting until I had returned to Ohio in 1989.
In London I met Simon Skinner, his brother Andrew and their friend Mark
Scanlon who all encouraged me. Simon became my best friend as I
worked on the first novel, Blue, which I published in 2000 under
Xlibris, a partner of Random House.
In
May 1994 I married Robyn Herr in Kent, Ohio and in May 1995 I got
sober. In August 2001 we moved from Kent to Berkeley California
so Robyn could study theology and I could climb in Yosemite. We
did both but separated in January 2003. I stayed in Berkeley for
a while, eventually moving to Walnut Creek for six months then here to
San Francisco in July 2004. I am close to finishing my second
novel, Daydream Nation, I think. Aside from shows in Ohio including
Studio 425 I have shown my work here in SF at the Black Light
Ball. I am preparing slides and a
portfolio to send to galleries.
